The Association Sommelier International (ASI) competition for the Best sommelier of the World took place in Mendoza, Argentina during April, 2016. The Grand Final was held on April 19 on the stage of the legendary Theatre Independence Mendoza City before more than six hundred people including representatives of delegations from around the world, the staff of the International Sommelier Association, wine sector entities, representatives of the sponsoring companies of the event, sommeliers from around the world and accredited journalists. It was shown live on a giant screen at the Park Hyatt Mendoza, and could be seen from anywhere in the world, in real time, online. At the end a gala dinner by the best chefs of Argentina took place, great wines chosen by the winners of the previous editions of the contest Best Sommelier of Argentina were served, and the winner and other positions of the competition were announced.
The winner of the Best Sommelier in Ireland 2015 Julie Dupouy Young, Greenhouse Restaurant, Dawson Street, Dublin and Portfolio Brand Ambassador for Champagne Brands with Edward Dillion and Co. Ltd., represented Ireland at the World Sommelier Competitions in Mendoza and was placed third overall winning a bronze medal. This is a great result for Julie personally,and the Irish Guild of Sommeliers .
