A masterclass and tasting of Sherry wines from Fernando di Castilla took place on 19th September for Irish Guild of Sommeliers members

Thanks to Jan Pettersen for hosting such a superb masterclass and. to Tindal Wine Merchants for organizing this very special tasting for the irish Guild of Sommeliers and to ely wine bars for their kind support.

Jan Pettersen, owner, Fernando de Castilla, is master of production and ageing of fine, unblended, untreated sherries. Made from the finest wines, these range from the pale, light and elegant Finos to the unique Antique sherries and have received numerous international awards.

Norwegian by birth, educated in Oslo, graduated from University in Edinburgh and Barcelona. Jan has very considerable experience in Sherry production having been in senior management position at Osborne for a number of years and is heavily involved in promotional activities for the Sherry industry.

In this tutored tasting, Jan, with his wealth of experience and gentle manner, shared his knowledge of the sherry industry, from production through to global consumption. The tasting centred around his range of sherries investigating styles and when best to consume.
